As the Vietnam War expanded, anger at the Johnson Administration hit a feverish pitch. Doomed by demographics, Johnson expanded the draft just as the largest generation of youth and mass media came to age. The results were explosive.
Within 4 years the country was in near revolt. LBJ declined to run, numerous assassinations had rocked the nation, and a new culture of dissent had begun to flourish.
